Disclaimer: Please note that this week's newsletter was written by Ceinwen Evans, who is a member of our Marketing department. It was her idea to present an important message by using an alternative perspective of what D2P do for their clients, and can do for you. While it was extremely popular with the office staff, Managing Director John Weichard thought it was quote 'Naff' unquote. Note: 'Spiders' is in fact the semi-technical term for the way information is gathered from the Web by a Search Engine such as Google.
Once upon a time in a virtual universe far far away, lived a lonely little spider called Ironee. Ironee existed in a complete state of technological suspension, which could not be seen with the human eye. Humans often referred to the little town he lived as 'Google'. The humans relied heavily on the spiders and the town of 'Google' to find important information for them. They knew that without the spiders and 'Google', their lives would be more difficult, and finding information would be much harder and increasingly time-consuming. It was a happy, symbiotic relationship and served both the spiders and the humans well.
Ironee did not understand why he wasn't needed to help the older more experienced spiders, as there was billions of humans, and billions of other towns in their virtual world known as 'Websites'. Websites are where the spiders would go to get the information for the humans, and then bring it back to Google. The elders explained to Ironee that although there were billions of other Websites, these towns were not 'Optimised' or 'Marketed', which meant they had no map and no directions on how to get there, and so the spiders could not find them! Ironee thought this was preposterous! How would anyone find these other 'Websites' without a map? How would any of the spiders be able to visit them and bring back the information that the human needs? What if the information most needed by a human was in one of those other 'Websites' that the spiders could not find. It didn't make sense!
As the proud owner of a website, you need to know that for the Google Spiders to find you, you need a map, directions and an incentive for the spider to catch you and take you back to Google. That means you need to appropriately Market and Optimise your website, or you will be lost within the virtual world, in a sea of other Websites.
D2P are Internet experts, and can create that map and incentive, so the Google Spiders can find you and take your information back to another human that is searching for you.
And Ironee? Well he went on to apply a concept. This concept involved his concern of those Websites without maps and directions.
"While a Website is devoid of maps and directions, even temporarily, will be the exact time a human is in dire need of the information contained within that website". Irony!
