Client Profile: Driver Education Australia
Driver Education Australia are an important organization that provide vital education and support to first time drivers, ensuring their safety and driving ability on Australian roads.
Dino Kalivas
Chief Executive Officer
Driver Education, Australia.
In our modern world travelling in a motorcar is a very major part of our lives. The car today connects us with work, social circles, recreational pursuits, friends, relatives and opens many opportunities for us in life.
For most of us the car represents a device that is just as important as the mobile phone, the PC and the internet.
Unfortunately in Australia and in the western world getting into a car remains the single largest cause of death and major injury for persons aged 16-25 years of age. In fact in Australia,
- every 24 hours 2 people under the age of 25 years die on Australian roads, and
- every 24 Hours 30 people under the age of 25 are seriously injured on Australian roads.
Sobering when we consider that 80% of the above statistics are avoidable.
Can you think or any other aspect of your life where you are willing to accept a 20% success rate?.
This is where my daily journey begins, a journey established to raise awareness and empower young people to rethink the way they approach driving and focus on developing driving as a life skill.
Driver Education Australia (DEa) was formed in 2004. DEa is a not for profit organisation aimed at senior secondary school students and any person who supervises someone on their L plates. DEa is the vision of Bruce Thomas and David Arnold, a key initiative of Geelong Motorplex.
Since its inception DEa has now been established in range of school in Victoria and has established a number of key partnerships with government, universities and a range of private organisations who sponsor the program.
One such partner is D2P who has assisted DEa in a variety of aspects including web development, hardware and software support, graphic design for logos and recently enhancing DEa's capacity for on line shopping. DEa would like thank the staff at D2P who are always professional and enthusiastic.
So, what key road safety message may I leave you. ?
Perhaps practice these 6 simple steps each time you get behind the wheel of a car;
1) Set yourself a safety target (between 1-10) aim for the highest number, and be the best driver.
2) Picture something that's important to you (keep that image in mind until you reach your destination)
3) Practice commentary driving ( describe to yourself what your doing,) this helps concentration.
4) Set your crash avoidance space (keep a 3 second following gap from the car moving in front and scan 2 further further ahead)
5) Don't run Red lights.
6) Limit your distractions (mobile phones, and self distractions)

Thought Provoking Message For The Week:
"Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my own dreams." "
